The Camp at Samonyana
Samonyana is not a traditional safari lodge. It is something quieter, more personal — a small island camp designed for people who want space, freedom, and a genuine connection to the Delta.
The camp is intentionally intimate, with just four canvas tents spread lightly across the island so that nature remains the main attraction.

Three of the tents are comfortable two-sleeper safari tents, each with its own private bathroom. Inside you'll find two proper beds with quality linen, simple furnishings, and the kind of comfort that allows you to sleep deeply after a long day exploring the waterways and floodplains.
The fourth tent is a family tent, designed for those travelling with children. It features a comfortable double bed for parents, with an adjoining room containing three single beds, creating a shared but spacious family setup that still feels like a true bush experience.

At the heart of the camp is an elevated lounge and viewing deck. From here you can relax, read, enjoy a drink, or simply watch the Delta unfold around you. Birds move constantly through the trees, and wildlife often passes quietly through the floodplains below. It is a place made for slow mornings, long conversations, and sunset views.
Below the deck sits the camp kitchen, equipped with a fridge and everything needed for self-catering — cooking equipment, utensils, and cutlery. Guests can prepare their own meals, share food around the table, or keep things beautifully simple while settling into the rhythm of island life.

For those travelling with their own expedition setup, Samonyana offers something genuinely rare. At certain times of year, when water levels allow, it is possible to drive directly onto the island in your own 4×4. The crossing involves navigating shallow water channels and floodplain terrain — an adventurous and exhilarating drive that very few destinations in Africa can match. In exceptionally dry periods, the island has even been reached in a two-wheel-drive vehicle, though a high-clearance 4×4 with a snorkel is always recommended.
Guests who make it onto the island in their own vehicle are welcome to sleep in their vehicle or rooftop tent if they prefer. You will have full access to the island's bathroom facilities (warm shower and flush toilet), the camp kitchen, the lounge and viewing deck, and all other camp amenities. The self-drive option simply gives you your own sleeping setup — with the full Samonyana experience around you.
It is a completely different kind of Delta stay. Waking up in your own rig, coffee in hand, watching elephants move across the floodplain — with none of the infrastructure of a traditional lodge between you and the wild.

Because Samonyana is intentionally remote, provisioning is simple but flexible. Basic groceries can be purchased from a nearby village about 20 km away, which is ideal for fresh top-ups during your stay. Most guests choose to stock up on larger supplies in Maun on their way into the Delta, where supermarkets offer everything needed for a comfortable self-cater experience. If needed, additional supplies can also be arranged to be flown in from Maun on one of the daily flights, making it easy to replenish during longer stays.

Samonyana is not about polished luxury.
It is about freedom, simplicity, and the privilege of being in a place where nature still leads.
